The Black Fish used a quick-strike offence to earn a second straight victory.The team scored three times in 67 seconds early in the fourth quarter, turning a one-goal game into a 14-10 lead. And that cushion proved crucial as they hung on for the16-14 win over the Sea Spray in Arena Lacrosse League West action at Langley EventsCentre on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams sit with 2-3 records.The Black Fish struck for the first two goals and never trailed in the contest, with theSea Spray twice pulling even (once at 8-8 and again at 10-10) but could never muster the go-ahead goal.
Aside from the first quarter, when the Black Fish outscored the Sea Spray 3-1, every other period was equal.
Following a Reece Barnes goal off a face-off, Ethan M’Lot struck again 14 seconds later and then with their team short-handed, Brian Gillis made it 14-10 Black Fish 53 seconds after that for what became an insurmountable lead. M’Lot was the first star following his four-goal, seven-point outing and he was one of three Black Fish players to register hat tricks alongside Gillis and Barnes. Gillis added a trio of assists for the six-point game which was matched by third star Connor Watson (2- 4). Rhys Porteous added two goals with Xander Cabeca and Aidan Murphy scoring once apiece. Keegan Okino finished with 50 saves as the Black Fish were outshot 64-61. James Rahe was the second star after leading the Sea Spray with a five-goal game. Trevayne Hunter (2-2) and Thomas Semple (1-4) also had big games with Ty Fisher, Kai George and Eli Batt all scoring once and setting up a pair of goals each while Darrel Hunter, Tyrell Hamer-Jackson and Seamus Bankier chipped in a goal apiece. ARENA LACROSSE LEAGUE WEST DIVISION NEWS RELEASE
The Shooting Eagles remain perfect on the season, following yet another victory.
The Eagles scored six times in the first quarter and never trailed, defeating the Grizzlies
18-9 to improve to 5-0 in the Arena Lacrosse League West. The Grizzlies dropped a
fourth straight game and sit at 1-4.
The game was played on Saturday at Langley Events Centre.
With the score tied at one, the Shooting Eagles went on a 5-0 run, building what
became an insurmountable lead as the closes the Grizzlies would get would be within a
pair of goals late in the first half.
Six different Eagles players scored two more goals, led by Declan Fitzpatrick’s four-goal
effort while Mark Yingling (3-2) and Dylan McIntosh (3-1) each had hat tricks. Keegan
Kozack and Coady Adamson – the first and second stars, respectively – both had two
goals and four assist with Garret Winter adding a goal and four helpers.
Tyson Johnson rounded out the scoring with one goal and one assist as well as a
dominating performance in face-offs with the Eagles winning possession of 21 of 30
draws.
Brody Harris made 38 saves on 48 shots.
Kyle Brunsch would earn the game’s third star thanks to a hat trick and five points for
the Grizzlies. Erik Forsselius and Marcello Mannarino heac had two goals and three
points and Trevor Funk (1-3) and Pearson Willis (1-1) completing the scoring.
Brayden Wandler stopped 35 of 48 shots while Ryder Bremner made 8 saves on 13
shots.
UP NEXT: The Sea Spray (2-3) and Grizzlies (1-4) play at 1:00pm while the Shooting
Eagles (5-0) take on the Black Fish (2-3) on December 14 at Langley Events Centre.
